When a film has A. R. Rahman in its credits, you know it will have a memorable soundtrack. The composer has been behind some of Indian and world cinema’s most memorable music for over three decades. With two of his films, Maidaan and Chamkila, releasing in close quarters, Amazon Music caught up with Rahman for a candid chat. The 8-minute clip, which is on YouTube, has the musician talking about going to the studio with his father to compose Malayalam songs. Rahman also reflects on the pathway movies created for him to share his music with the world, and how Roja changed his life. He credited the musical, Bombay Dreams, for expanding his perspective to the West, and paving the path for more projects outside India. His quote that stayed with us though was, ‘Every song is a story.’ With much more lined up from the maestro, we can’t wait to experience the stories he has to tell.
