Summers call for an escape to a hill station, far away from the scorching heat of the city. And it is one such hill station that forms the backdrop against which Sana Shetty’s latest novel unfolds.
An ex-cop, Vanessa and her husband Aiden had retired to the tiny hamlet of Fagu, near Shimla, where they were running their quaint cafe and ambling along comfortably from one day to the next. However, their post-retirement life was upended when they made a startling discovery one morning – a young girl in her early twenties, left to die at the end of a hidden trekking trail. Vanessa and Aiden decide to take the girl in, name her Shanaya and look after her like their own daughter, all the while concealing her terrible past from her.
The story picks up pace with the arrival of a stranger, two years later, who triggers a flood of forgotten memories in Shanaya. As someone who was already struggling with nightmares and PTSD and attempting to figure out her past, when the stranger offers her an opportunity to rediscover what her life used to be, Shanaya is lured into what will set out to be a perilous path which will endanger the lives of everyone she has ever loved.
Published by HarperCollins, The Lost Girl by Sana Shetty is fast paced, compelling and keeps the reader at the edge of their seat from start to finish. Teeming with mystery, danger and unexpected turns at every corner, while unfolding against the serene backdrop of a quiet hill station, this book has all the right ingredients for a perfect summer read!
