If you have not stumbled across one of Sawan Dutta’s jingles on her YouTube page, we advise you to drop everything and check it out right now. The music director, composer, songwriter, record producer, vocalist and vlogger based in Bengaluru creates songs out of unusual raw materials, such as recipes, travel, climate change or Covid safety guidelines.

Her latest for her YouTube page, The Metronome is a Ganesh Chaturthi special — a song recipe for Ukadiche Modak. Dressed in her staple red sari and big bindi — the Bengali aunty look, as she calls it — she narrates her recipe in the form of a song, peppered with various little Metronome nuggets of humour. In this video, she sings out her modak recipe while making it as well and even has some shots of her playing different melodies on her keyboard. After every step of the recipe, she comes back to her chorus which goes, “Ganpati is coming, time to celebrate, Dancing in the city, modaks on my plate, Bappa is coming, I’m going to celebrate, Drums on the streets, modaks on my plate.”

So if you’re also looking forward to Bappa’s arrival, make your modak-making fun and tune in.
