It’s been half a century since John Lennon and Yoko Ono wrote Imagine. Elton John famously covered Imagine at a free concert at New York’s Central Park in 1980, a few weeks before Lennon’s tragic death (Elton performed only a few blocks away from Lennon’s Upper West Side apartment). Queen frontman Freddie Mercury sang it in Frankfurt during his Game tour, a few days after Lennon was tragically shot. David Bowie covered Imagine on Lennon’s third death anniversary in 1983. Lady Gaga covered it at the opening ceremony of the 2015 European Games. That same year UNICEF created an a Capella version of the song with the likes of Sonu Nigam, Katy Perry, Priyanka Chopra, Will.i.am and many others.
