Fans of pianist Sourendro Mullick and vocalist Soumyojit Das eagerly anticipate their grand annual World Music Day concert, known for attracting musicians nationwide. Even though this musical extravaganza unfolded months ago, the duo recently treated their audience to a snippet featuring a special collaboration with the legendary Sharmila Tagore. Shared as a heartfelt birthday wish to the veteran actor, the performance showcased a captivating blend of Rabindranath Tagore’s Amaro Porano Jaha and the poem Nimantran, celebrating Tagore’s early muse, Notun Bouthan.
In this mesmerising display, Sharmila Tagore delivered the poem’s lines with profound emotion, while Sourendro-Soumyojit and their ensemble infused a musical twist by singing and playing Amaro Porano Jaha. The dynamic interaction between Tagore and the ensemble on stage, trading different lines, added an enchanting dimension to the performance.
Witnessing Tagore in this light is truly refreshing, and it’s the unique flair that Sourendro-Soumyojit brings that keeps us captivated until the final note.
