Opening with Chhau, Sourendra and Soumyojit’s festive release, Tomar Agomoni, showcases the multi-cultural ethos and fabric of Bengal. The use of pujo elements like alpana, kansar-ghanta and pradips to Kolkata essentials like heritage buildings, Ganga and the streets of the city, blend with the lyrics to provide a cinematic experience full of nostalgia and awe.
A tribute to Birendra Krishna Bhadra, Pankaj Mullick and Bani Kumar, the song that has Soumyojit on vocals and Sourendra on the piano, released on Mahalaya (October 6) is an ode to the Goddess Durga.
Written, composed, produced and directed by the musician duo Sourendra and Soumyajit, and supported by an eclectic set of artists like Kalyan Majumdar on sitar and Samar Das and team on dhaak to name some, the song’s original script excerpt has been taken from Bani Kumar. The multilingual collaboration featuring English, Italian, German and Russian has been translated by Partha Mukherjee.
The music video also features Melinda Pavek (US Consul General), Gianluca Rubagotti (Italian Consul General, Astrid Wege (Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan director) and Anna Saha (Russian Consulate).
Tomar Agomoni has close to 26,000 views on YouTube and has received wide appreciation from the viewers.
