Tukbokki or tteokbokki is a popular Korean rice dish that has many layers of flavours and textures. While the dish seems very simple, it is the texture of the rice cakes that makes or breaks the dish. At Cafe TOV, you can tuck into a bowl of spicy tukbokki that has chewy rice cakes doused in a fiery red sauce made from the Korean chilli paste, Gochujang. In the vegetarian version of this dish, the tukbokki is served with noodles that carry the flavours of the sauce through the dish. The non-vegetarian version of the dish has fish cakes served with the rice cakes. These spongy fish cakes soak up all the great spicy flavours of the dish. The rich sauce is balanced out by the spring onion garnish, which adds a crunchy freshness to the dish.
