The good ol’ Korean mandu has made its way to Kolkata’s new Korean grocery store, Seela Mart. A pan-fried shrimp mandu will also be available pretty soon at King’s Bakery’s new menu (Seela Mart is situated within the bakery). A mandu is a meat-filled dumpling wrapped like a lucky pouch, to symbolise good fortune and boasts a light, breathy texture. The mandu is also a hugely versatile dumpling, it can be steamed, boiled or deep-fried, and can also be used to make the widely popular manduguk, which is a dumpling soup.
The ones available at the Korean grocery store at 216/3B AJC Bose Road are packaged, ready-to-cook variants by a popular Korean cuisine brand called Bibigo. At the moment Bibigo products are hard to source anywhere else in Kolkata, so better stock up! Moreover, if you can’t get enough of mukbang food, Seelamart is also selling the oversized Korean corn dogs that are oh-so-dippable in cheese.
