Fabcafe calls its low-carb polenta upma a ‘weight-watcher’s delight’ but it’s also interesting flavour-wise since it’s made of cornmeal, which is more subtle and layered in taste than semolina or sooji. For people who don’t like simple carbs for breakfast or stay away from refined or granulated wheat options, the cornmeal upma is a good option. Fabcafe serves its polenta upma with fresh veggies, nuts and a tomato-nariyal chutney on the side.
The Fabcafe outpost at Loudon Street is also one of the most vegan-friendly eateries in the city, serving a wide range of plant-based options made with alternative ingredients. The polenta upma is a great vegan breakfast option that’s also wheat-free and full of complex carbs that are high in fibre. Pair the upma with a tangy Kokum Coconut Cooler or their signature Masala Chai.
