Sanskrit scholar and lexicographer Ramchandra Vidyabagish passed away on this day. He taught at Sanskrit College. He was closely associated with the work of Raja Rammohun Roy and was the first secretary of Brahmo Sabha, established in 1828. He had delivered a remarkable speech on monotheism at Atmiya Sabha, which was established before Brahmo Sabha.

In 1843, he initiated Debendranath Tagore and 21 other young men into Brahmo Samaj. After Roy went to England, Vidyabagish’s scholarship was instrumental in sustaining Brahmo Sabha.
