The poet Rabindranath Tagore got married to Mrinalini Devi on this day. Rabindranath was 22, his bride nine or 11, as there is some confusion about her date of birth. According to the Bengali calendar, the date of the wedding was Agrahayan 24, 1290.
Mrinalini Devi’s father worked at the Tagore estate. Before her marriage, her name was Bhabatarini. It was changed when she stepped into the Tagore family. The venue was unconventional: Bhabatarini was brought to the Tagore house in Jorasanko, where she was married to Rabindranath following Brahmo rituals.
