On this day, a devastating cyclone hit Bangladesh, killing more than 1,35,000 people.
The cyclone was moving north through the Bay of Bengal for a week and hit the southeastern coast of Bangladesh in Chittagong on April 29.

The winds, speeding at 240km per hour, led to a surge of water that drowned large stretches of land and entire islands.
