Two men who were engaged to clean the water reservoir of an under-construction building on 19 Russa Road were found dead inside the reservoir on Saturday.

An officer of Golf Green police station said preliminary inquiry had revealed that the duo had joined work on Saturday and their bodies were spotted floating inside a reservoir by the site manager engaged by the contractor.

Police identified the two as Shyam Halder, 35, and Palan Halder, 33 — both residents of Mandirbazar in South 24-Parganas.

“The two were engaged by the contractor on Saturday. When the site manager came, he apparently could not spot either of them. He started looking for them when he accidentally spotted their bodies inside the water reservoir, which they had been engaged to clean,” said an officer.

A team of disaster management group personnel were called and they brought out the bodies from the reservoir. The two were declared dead at SSKM Hospital.

The police said they did not find any external injury marks on the bodies and that nothing had emerged till late on Saturday evening to make them suspect any foul play.

There was no specific complaint regarding the deaths.
