Two more persons have been arrested for their alleged links with the racket that used to sell One Time Passwords (OTPs) to fraudsters, who used them to carry out online frauds.

Police said the two who were arrested on Saturday were Mohammad Salauddin and Samsad Ali - both residents of Cuttack in Odisha.

“Salauddin had opened a bank account in the name of Samsad Ali using his identity documents. The cyber fraudsters had used this account, among others, to transfer the proceeds of the crime,” said an officer of Parnasree police station in west Kolkata’s Behala area.

Last week, a man was arrested for allegedly selling OTPs through a messaging service. The police said the OTPs, which were sold for Rs 20 each, were used to create e-wallets for executing online frauds.

The fraudsters would transfer the stolen money through a series of e-wallets, created with the OTPs, and bank accounts before it is withdrawn from an ATM.

The long trail of transfers was created to ensure that the fraudsters could get hold of the money before the police could recover it.

Samsad’s account was one such through which fraudsters transferred money after cheating a resident of Parnasree of Rs 20.54 lakh, the police said.
