A transport company’s office housed in a building in central Kolkata was robbed by five men armed with guns on Saturday afternoon, an employee of the company has reported to police.
Officers of Jorasanko police station said the office of Joy Mata Di Paribahan Limited, which was allegedly robbed, was on the second floor of Janki Bhawan in Kashinath Mullick Lane in Jorasanko.
According to the complaint lodged by the employee, Sourav Dutta, the robbers struck around 4.15pm on Saturday. Dutta was in the office then.
He mentioned in the complaint that five unidentified men had entered the office around 4.15pm brandishing guns.
“The employees did not get any opportunity to raise an alarm. The robbers threatened them at gunpoint to empty the cash box,” said an officer of the police station.
The robbers left with Rs 75,000, Dutta mentioned in the complaint.
The building where the office is located houses offices of multiple commercial establishments and remains crowded.
The police suspect the robbers had carried out a recce of the building and had information about the number of employees who would be present then.
No one was arrested till Sunday evening.
