An inquiry revealed that the boy had left home — located close to the building where he was found hanging — around 8pm on Monday to meet his friends.

“The boy was found hanging from the third-floor ceiling of a railway colony building in Behala around 6pm on Tuesday. His cousin saw him first. He was unconscious when brought down,” said an officer at Behala police station.

He was taken to Vidyasagar Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The boy had written his ISC accounts paper on Monday, which was his last board paper.

“He returned home from school after writing the paper. He ate and went out around 8pm. He had spoken to his mother around midnight and told her that he would return by morning,” the boy’s father told Metro.

His family had been searching for him since Tuesday
morning. They found him hanging in the evening.

“The boy was in debt. He was into online gambling,” said the officer.

The police said they had not received any complaint till Wednesday evening.
