Suvendu Adhikari seeks footage from Kolkata police after paying Rs 11000 fine for speeding

Vehicles in which the Leader of Opposition travels have been reportedly fined Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000 for the alleged offence of speeding

The Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has written to Kolkata police commissioner Vineet Goyal seeking closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage of his vehicles in connection with the fines for allegedly speeding.

Adhikari wrote to the city police chief on Friday: “I would like to inform you that the vehicles which I use for travelling have been fined for overspeeding on more than one occasion. As a law-abiding citizen, I have duly paid the imposed fines.... I would like to make a request to you, to kindly provide me the CCTV footage of the instances when the vehicles violated speeding rules along with the detected speed with time & date stamp and camera number encrypted on the footage. I am ready to pay any charge or fee if required by rules & regulations for obtaining such footage.”

Adhikari went to Lalbazar on Friday to submit the letter.

Vehicles in which Adhikari travels have been reportedly fined Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000 for the alleged offence of speeding. The fine for speeding is Rs 1,000 per offence. Adhikari said he received two e-challans on November 30 for a fine of Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000 for the two vehicles.
