Calcutta High Court on Thursday asked the state to stop the salaries of 350 Group C employees in secondary schools whose appointments were allegedly made by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education based on fake recommendations.

In response to an earlier directive by the court, a lawyer submitted a list of 350 candidates, who allegedly got the jobs even after expiry of a 2016 panel. The court was told that many candidates were given appointments in Group C and Group D posts in state-run schools after May 14, 2019.

The case relating to illegal appointment of Group D staff is being heard by a division bench of the court. The next hearing in that case is scheduled on December 6.

Two days ago, a person came to court alleging that even after obtaining recommendations he was not getting the job of a Group C employee in secondary schools. The lawyer appearing for the candidate told the court that many other candidates had already got job on the basis of similar recommendations.

After scrutinising the recommendation letter, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay concluded that it was issued after May 14, 2019.

The judge then asked the lawyer to submit a list of the candidates who got jobs in Group C after May 4, 2019.
