St Xavier’s College, Park Street, will hold a vaccination camp for its students and their families as a step towards resuming in-person classes.

A college official said if the family members of the students were not brought under the vaccination cover, a student might catch the virus at home and not be able to visit the campus for physical classes as and when the campus was reopened.

While the state government is going to organise the vaccination camp for students of colleges and universities from next week, St Xavier’s College will extend the vaccination drive to the family members of students and staff, said principal Father Dominic Savio.

“We will request the government to provide additional stock. If they are unable, we will procure on our own. If the family members are not entirely vaccinated, a student will run the risk of catching the virus at home and this could come in the way of attending physical classes whenever allowed,” he told The Telegraph.

The state government on Wednesday decided to vaccinate all students of colleges and universities in preparation of a possible reopening of campuses for inperson classes from November.

St Xavier’s has circulated Google forms among students and staff to ascertain the status of vaccination and submit the quantum of requirements.

The college had earlier organised the vaccination drive on the campus in cooperation with Kolkata Municipal Corporation to give doses to students, staff, alumni and the general public.

“Including the family members, particularly of the students, was a must so they can visit the campus without any concern,” said the principal.
