A special investigation team (SIT) was formed on Friday to probe the two cases of abduction and gang rape that had been lodged with separate police stations but turned out to be linked.

Police said three more persons have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping case registered at Netajinagar police station earlier this month. The total arrest figure now stands at seven.

Cops identified the three as Biswajit Das, 52, Susmita Biswas, 25 and Biswajit Das, 33, alias Bapi Pal. “The senior Biswajit was associated with the prime accused in the case, Vikram Das, who was arrested from Hyderabad on Monday night,” said an officer.

“The complaint of gang rape at Anandapur police station is related to the kidnapping case. Hence, a special investigation team has been formed,” said an officer at the Calcutta police headquarters in Lalbazar.

The seven were arrested in connection with a case of kidnapping a man and his driver and allegedly using the man’s vehicle to cook up a story of gang rape to mislead the probe.
