Several schools have already decided to resume in-person classes on Monday and some of them are likely to take a decision on Sunday.
Schools like Modern High School for Girls; Loreto House; Loreto Day School, Elliot Road; South Point; Indus Valley World School; the La Martiniere schools and Mahadevi Birla World Academy have decided to call students back to campus for classes on the first day of the new week.
Some of these schools would follow summer timings and children will be dispersed earlier than usual.
“We decided to follow a staggered early dispersal to give students some relief so that they do not have to feel the heat for long,” said Devi Kar, director of Modern High School for Girls.
Modern High School International, which has air-conditioned classrooms, will follow the usual schedule.
Private English medium schools shut down after the state government asked all schools to close last week because of the heat wave forecast.
Many of the schools had shifted to online classes.
But the problems of devices and children losing out interest were some of the things that teachers across schools faced during one week of online classes.
“It is important to get them back to class because they will break for summer vacation soon,” said Jessica Gomes Surana, principal, Loreto Day School Elliot Road.
Schools said that once they come back work can be set for their long break of summer vacation.
Indus Valley World School said they have prepared a detailed dispersal plan on Friday so that students would have minimum outdoor exposure after school gives over.
Before schools had given off several schools had called off outdoor activities because of the heat.
“We are ready to resume in-person classes and we want children to be back on the campus for the new academic session,” said Rupkatha Sarkar, principal, La Martiniere for Girls.
Both The La Martiniere schools were scheduled to start the new session last week but decided to shift online in respect of the order and the heat spell.
Schools like St.James’ School, Sushila Birla Girls’ School are likely to take a decision on Sunday.
Some of the others like St Xavier’s Collegiate School and MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School will decide next week, they said.
The decision to resume in-person classes in some institutes was taken because the weather has improved. It is not as hot as it was last week.
One school said that since there was no further order for an extension of holidays from the state government they have decided to open.
Another school said that if the weather deteriorates they would reconsider the decision to reopen.
“We have our back-up(online) ready and if the weather gets unfavourable we will take a decision accordingly,” said Anjana Saha, principal, Mahadevi Birla World Academy.
