The parks in Salt Lake, which were popular hangouts in the township but have fallen into disrepair, will be repaired and revamped, the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation has said.

The parks, which are maintained by the civic body, now sport broken lights, furniture and walls. Many are covered with weeds and creepers.

Mayor Krishna Chakraborty said setting things right at the parks and revamping them was a priority.

“Urgent repairs will be carried out and the process of redeveloping the parks will be speeded up,” she said.

An official of the corporation said tenders for park repairs will be floated.

The parks in the township had last undergone thorough repairs in 2015.

At a park in FD Block, several trident lights have broken and most of the lights became defunct months ago. Electrical wires stick out dangerously from some of the lamp posts.

At an AD Block park, children’s play furniture such as swings, slides and merry-go-rounds lie in neglect.

Rusted bolts stick out of many of the furniture, posing a risk to the children using them.

“We will start repairs at the parks soon as we want them to become places where residents of all ages can gather and spend quality time like before,” the official said.
