Many New Town residents have tested Covid positive at rapid antigen test (RAT) camps held at multiple locations in the satellite city.

A New Town Kolkata Development Authority official said they had organised the camps at four housing complexes — Uniworld City, DLF Newtown Heights, Sampoorna Tritiya and Sunny Fort — and the CB Market, where both shoppers and shopkeepers underwent the tests.

At the Uniworld City complex in Action Area II, three persons tested positive of the 21 residents tested. At the CB Market, two out of five shoppers came positive. At the Sunny Fort complex, three were found Covid-infected out of eight, while one person out of 24 was tested positive at the Sampoorna Tritiya.

A microbiologist said a positive result of RAT would indicate that the person is infected with the novel coronavirus, but one cannot rule out infection in people testing negative.

A person, who has symptoms but is tested negative in RAT, should go for the RT-PCR method, according to state guidelines.

Authority chairman Debashis Sen said they were monitoring the situation and doctors were in touch with those found Covid positive.

“Our doctors are in constant touch with those, who have tested positive. We have already sent in sanitising teams to the areas from where the maximum concentration of Covid-19 cases are being mapped,” said Sen.

He said that apart from conducting the RAT camps, the development authority teams were moving around all three Action areas of New Town and spraying sanitisers.

The North 24 Parganas district administration has declared parts of four housing complexes in New Town as micro-containment zones.
