Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, is going ahead with in-person classes instead of bringing forward the summer vacation, an official at the school said.
The residential school, which has 1,100-odd students from Classes V to XII, had earlier thought of holding the classes in the morning or evening to protect the students from the scorching heat.
This was mulled following the state government’s April 27 announcement that the start of the summer vacation would be advanced to May 2 at the schools run or aided by it, except those in the hill districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, because of the heat spell.
Swami Ishteshananda, headmaster of the Narendrapur school, said that since the weather condition had improved following the rain over the past few days, the plan had been dropped and classes were being held according to the usual schedule.
“The students have just become used to on-campus academic activities. Advancing the summer vacation would disrupt the system. Besides, the weather has improved remarkably,” he said.
The school will hold its bi-monthly test in May on the campus. “The Class XI practical exams are being held,” said a school official.
The state higher secondary council had on April 28 issued a notice putting on hold the Class XI practical exams from May 2, except in Darjeeling and Kalimpong, because of early start of the summer vacation.
“Our students stay in hostels close to the school. So we are going ahead with the classes and exams,” the official said.
