Mukhopadhyay was associated with the magazine Krittibas, founded and edited by the late Sunil Gangopadhyay.

Initially, he used to write under the pseudonym “Namita Mukhopadhayay” before beginning to contribute as Sarat Mukhopahdyay in Krittibas.

Mukhopadhayay was born in 1931. Among his collection of poems are Andhokar Lebubon and Ahata Bhru Bilas.

Poet Subodh Sarkar said: “Sarat Mukhopahdyay was part of the Fab Four — Sunil Gangopahdyay, Shakti Chattopadhyay and Sandipan Chattopahdyay (the other three) — who used to lord over the nights of Kolkata. He was unparalleled for the satirical tone and diction.”
