Sagnik Chakraborty, live-in partner of actress Pallavi Dey who was found hanging in their rented apartment at Garfa near Jadavpur in south Kolkata on Sunday morning, has been remanded in police custody after he was produced at a city court on Wednesday.

Chakraborty was arrested on Tuesday on the basis of the complaint filed by the actress’s father. He has been charged with sections of murder, cheating, criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and dishonest misappropriation of property of the Indian Penal Code.

Chakraborty’s mother has claimed that her son was being framed. “The flat in Rajarhat which Pallavi’s parents are claiming was purchased with her money, was bought by us. Pallavi did not contribute anything. We had paid Rs 43 lakh in cash and took a loan to pay the remaining amount,” she said on Wednesday.

She also claimed that her husband and father-in-law had given Rs 9 lakh to Chakraborty to buy a car. “Sagnik and Pallavi bought a pre-owned Audi with our money. Now, Pallavi’s parents are claiming the vehicle,” she alleged.

Police questioned Dey’s domestic help Selima Sardar on Wednesday at Garfa police station. Sources said, she was asked about her last conversation with Dey on Sunday, a few hours before Dey was found dead.

“She was asked about the people who used to visit the flat and whether the woman, whose name Dey’s father has mentioned in the complaint, used to come frequently,” an officer said.

Police have collected Chakraborty’s and his parents’ bank details to verify their claims about the flat and the car.
