A man in his early 40s, who stays in Hatiara on the fringes of New Town, has been arrested for allegedly raping his minor domestic help.
The man who stays in the apartment with his wife and two children was arrested by a team from the Eco Park police station in New Town on Friday morning, on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s family.
A senior officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said that the girl had initially not told anyone about the incident.
“She, however, complained of pain in her private parts that led her relatives getting suspicious, after which the girl told her mother about what happened,” said the officer.
Her family took her to a doctor who examined her and told the parents to lodge a complaint with police.
“The man works for an IT firm. His wife is expecting a third child. It seems that he used to regularly sexually assault the minor domestic help... She had been brought to look after his wife and was staying with the family for the last five months,” said the officer.
The man was produced before a court in Barasat that sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
