A homemaker has alleged that her WhatsApp had become “inoperative” for 48 hours after she had clicked on a link that she had received from an unknown number on the messaging platform.

Complainant Sandipa Ghosh, a resident of Netaji Nagar off Tollygunge, said she had received a link on her WhatsApp in April. “I clicked on the link and seconds later, my account became inaccessible.”

Ghosh said she could log into her account after two days. “I realised my account was hacked. I have not taken any loan from anyone. Someone was using my morphed pictures and circulating them among my contacts. He or she is demanding money through our friends and relatives by sending these messages using four different numbers.”

The family had reported to cyber police station at Lalbazar and at Netaji Nagar police station in April. “We are not yet sure if the account had been hacked. The matter is under investigation,” said an officer in Lalbazar.
