A mother and son were arrested from the city’s south-eastern fringe late on Friday after a teenager complained to police that the man had sexually assaulted her after lacing her food with drugs.
The girl, who had met the woman while undergoing a beautician’s course an institute off EM Bypass, has alleged that she had invited her to her house during Kali Puja. Over the next three days, her son allegedly assaulted her sexually after spiking her food with some drug, police said.
The girl, the police said, has said that she somehow managed to escape from the woman’s house. Back home, she narrated her experience to her parents, the cops said. But her father allegedly decided not to lodge any police complaint fearing social stigma.
The family sat on the teen’s traumatic experience for weeks till the girl narrated her ordeal to a close relative. They lodged a complaint of sexual assault on Friday.
Within hours of the complaint, the mother and the son were rounded up, a senior police officer said.
“A case has been drawn up under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the son and the mother has been charged with conspiring with him in committing the crime,” the officer said.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the victim had taken up a beautician’s course at the institute after clearing her Class XII exams this year. The accused woman was a teacher at the institute and also ran her own salon.
“The girl said during her period of stay at the house, the woman’s son allegedly assaulted her sexually for all three days. The woman was present in the house when the crime was committed,” the police officer said.
The police said the accused man’s mother has said they have been framed because her son had turned down the girl’s proposal of going into a relationship and marriage.
