The number of weekday Metro trains in the North-South corridor will go up from July 1, the carrier said.

“Metro Railway is going to run 288 daily services instead of 282 on weekdays from July 1 (Friday). Out of these, 172 trains will run between Kavi Subhas (New Garia) and Dakshineswar,” said a statement from the carrier.

With the additional trains, the interval between two trains will be around five minutes in peak hours, said a Metro official. Peak hours mean 9.30am to 11am and 5pm to 8pm, an official said.

The timings of the first and last trains will remain unchanged at 6.55am and 9.40pm, the Metro official said.

On June 15, a new rake was added to the Metro fleet. The carrier has 31 trains for the North-South corridor now.

The increased daily fleet is the maximum number of trains since the pandemic, said an official.

Before the pandemic, the carrier used to run 300 trains on weekdays.

The daily passenger count has been around 4.5 lakhs, said an official.

The weekend Metro train services have not been changed.
