The fair is part of an initiative aimed at “creating a buzz around books” in housing complexes and blocks.

“Housing complexes are like mini-cities. We want to create a buzz around books in these places and connect the readers with authors. All leading publishers will have

their stalls in the book fair. We will have panel discussions with authors,” said guild secretary Tridib Kumar Chattopadhyay. “We have chosen venues where there is a substantial population of educated people who we think have an appetite for reading,” he said.

The fair at the Regent Park complex was inaugurated at 5.30pm on Friday in the presence of artiste Hiran Mitra, actor Arun Mukhopadhyay and author Jayanta Dey.

The second event is scheduled at Utsav-Utsarg in Santoshpur from July 1 to 3. Salt Lake’s FD Block will host a fair from July 15 to 17.
