The fraud came to light after Sahay — an officer of the rank of additional director-general — posted a warning on his social media page saying someone had created a fake profile in his name and been seeking money from people on his contact list.

Sahay asked people to ignore such requests.

The cyber cell of the Kolkata police tracked down the internet protocol address of the device used to open the fake profile. The police then zeroed in on Khan at Ballana town in Alwar district.

Khan was arrested on August 23 and produced in a court in Rajasthan.

The court granted cops permission to bring Khan to Kolkata.
