A 42-year-old woman has alleged that a man raped her in an unknown location near Ultadanga Dakshindari in northeast Kolkata earlier this week.
Based on her complaint, police arrested a man named Dipu Dolui on Friday.
According to the complaint, the incident happened on the afternoon of July 12 when she was walking on the road. She was allegedly dragged from behind and taken to an unidentified location and raped.
“She has mentioned that she was physically tortured and raped for several hours and her ornaments were robbed by the man who allegedly threatened to slash her with a blade,” said an officer of Ultadanga police station.
Allegations had surfaced that initially there was a delay by the police in starting a case and the probe started only after a social worker, whom the victim knew, intervened and wrote a social media post.
Deputy commissioner (eastern suburban division) Priyabrata Roy said: “We have started a rape case. In case there is a complaint (of negligence), we would take strict action.”
