A man who hails from Lauhati in Rajarhat in east Kolkata was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly selling counterfeit spare parts of two automobile majors.
Alamgir Ali Mollah, 32, was picked up by a team from Narayanpur police station after they received a complaint from a firm based in Mumbai that conducts privately funded investigations by corporates and automobile companies, an officer of Bidhannagar commissionerate said.
“According to the complaint, the spares were not manufactured by the automobile companies. They were of inferior quality because of which their goodwill was being damaged and end users were also getting duped. Ali used to supply these spares to several shops and garages in Rajarhat,” said the officer.
The cops have seized nearly 100 packets of fake spare parts.
