The pass percentage last year was 100 per cent when the examinations could not be held because of Covid. The marks were calculated on the basis of equal weightage to a candidate’s performance in Class IX annual examinations and internal formative assessment of Class X.

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education president, Kalyanmoy Ganguly, announced the result on Friday at a press conference.

Altogether 11,27,800 students enrolled for the exam this year while 10,98,775 appeared, Ganguly said.

Schools across the state were forced to be closed from March 2020 because of Covid and reopened in February 2021 briefly in between.

The students attended online classes for almost two years. There were many students who did not have any device for a long period of time because of financial hardship at home.

“The students who were high scorers have been able to perform well. But the marks of the average ones have suffered,” said Soumen Pal, headmaster of Udaypur Haradayal Nag Adarsha Vidyalaya in Belghoria. Pal said 47 of 171 candidates scored above 60 per cent whereas in 2020 there were about 90 in that category.
