Madhyamik results in last week of May, says board

West Bengal Board of Secondary Education will conduct the exam based on the full syllabus this year, restoring the pre-pandemic practice that continued till 2019

The results of Madhyamik exams, which start on Thursday, will be published in the last week of May, the president of the state secondary education board said on Tuesday.

The board will conduct Madhyamik based on the full syllabus this year, restoring the pre-pandemic practice that continued till 2019.

The Class X board exams could not be held in 2020 because of Covid. It was held last year but on a truncated syllabus, because the pandemic had derailed academic activities.

“The results will be published in the last week of May. The board has taken all necessary steps. The board has engaged over 40,000 examiners, including 1,153 head examiners,” said Ramanuj Ganguly, president of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

The board has recently announced that less than 7 lakh candidates would write Madhyamik this year. Last year, more than 10 lakh candidates had written the test.

Asked about the current spate of viral infections among children, Ganguly said: “We have facilities like sick room, isolation room. This is part of our usual drill.”

The examinations will be held at over 2,800 centres.

Ganguly said most of the centres have been brought under CCTV surveillance. “A handful of centres have not been able to install the facilities. They have been requested to do so,” he said.
