The state secondary education board on Thursday did not despatch graph paper along with answer sheets of maths exam, leaving Madhyamik examinees confused about where they should do the computation and drawing. Computation and drawing are required for ogive, a statistical part of maths.

The question concerned is of four marks.

The board has asked the deputy secretary (examination) to submit a report about what led to the goof-up.

Saugata Basu, a teacher of the Uttarpara government school said, the examinees who were given the Bengali version of the question paper, got confused because question (15[II]) asked students to draw ogive on the graph paper, but no graph paper was supplied.

“In the English version, there was no such instruction. The invigilators stepped in, advising students who got the Bengali version, to do computation and drawing in the answer script itself,” said Basu.

The board, in a statement uploaded on its website, said the question paper setter and moderator did not mention in their notes that graph paper would be needed.
