A young businessman has set up a fridge on the road outside his house to quench the thirst of pedestrians in this scorching summer.

People from all walks of life, across religions and castes, have been drinking from the fridge.

The fridge has been set up on Alimuddin Street by Md Tauseef Rahman, 29. It is connected to a power source inside his home.

Every morning, Rahman fills around 30 bottles of water and puts them inside the fridge. “Free water” posters are stuck on the fridge.

The bottles get empty by the afternoon, prompting him to do a refill.

The fridge stays on the road through the night.

Rahman started the unique service on April 10.

“The summer has been very cruel. Without rain, the heat is becoming unbearable. I am just trying to extend a small help to fellow citizens,” said Rahman, who owns a hotel in the Beniapukur area.

“Many local people have also been keeping their water bottles inside my fridge. They mark their bottles before putting them inside the fridge,” Rahman said.

While drinking water taps and coolers outside gurdwaras can be seen in and around the city, a fridge on a road for the same purpose is not common.

The pictures of the fridge on the road are being widely shared on social media. One picture shows a differently-abled man on an improvised wheelchair drinking from a bottle near the fridge.

Another picture shows a schoolkid, a third shows an LPG cylinder delivery man.

“This is the best thing I saw on the internet today. May God give him more power to help others,” said a Facebook post.
