Lake Town is set to get a fire station. Fire and emergency services minister and local MLA Sujit Bose attended the ground-breaking ceremony of a three-pump station building last Friday.

The station is coming up near Jaya cinema, on a part of a plot which houses Lake Town market. “The fire stations currently nearest to this locality are in Dum Dum and Maniktala, both being around 5km away. Since this is a congested area, being on the way to the airport, even that distance could prove to be critical to cover. So we have decided to build a fire station here,” said Saroj Bag, divisional fire officer, North 24-Parganas.
