Hookah bar cuffs

Two persons were arrested for allegedly running a hookah parlour inside a café-cum-restaurant on Circus Avenue in the Park Circus area on Monday night. A police team raided the café and found an illegal hookah parlour inside, an officer said.

The persons arrested have been identified as Mohammad Afsar, 31, a resident of Bhukailash Road in Ekbalpore, and Washim Akram, 29, from Nazir Lane in Watgunge. The police said Afsar was the owner of the café.

On December 2, mayor Firhad Hakim had declared that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation would stop issuing licences for hookah bars. He had also said the civic body would issue a notice announcing that all existing permissions for hookah bars stood cancelled.
