Mohammed Shami bail

Cricketer Mohammed Shami was granted bail by a city court in connection with a case lodged against him by his wife Haseen Jahan in 2018. Shami’s lawyer Sk Salim Rahaman said his client appeared before the additional chief judicial magistrate in Alipore and submitted a prayer for bail, which was granted on Tuesday.

Nipah suspected

A 28-year-old man who had been to Kerala was admitted to the Beleghata ID Hospital as doctors suspect he may have been infected with the Nipah virus. The man was admitted to another state-run hospital before being shifted to the Beleghata ID Hospital on Tuesday. His swab samples will be sent to the National Institute of Virology, said a doctor at the Beleghata ID Hospital.

CCTV at Jadavpur University

A four-member team from Webel Technology visited the Jadavpur University campus and the main hostel on Tuesday to select the spots where CCTV cameras will be installed. The visit comes days after the state government sanctioned Rs 38 lakh for the installation of the CCTV cameras. The officiating vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor took the team around. The cameras will be installed by end-September, said an official at JU.
