Till 9.30am, Kolkata Traffic Police did not post any list of programmes that might affect the city traffic on Tuesday (8.8.2023)
On Monday night, KTP posted a traffic notification for restriction of heavy goods vehicles & medium goods vehicles throughout the city.
Whereas it is necessary for the interest of public safety and convenience , I, Vineet Kumar Goyal, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, in exercise of powers vested in me under Section 115, 117, 122 & 126 M V Act, 1988 and Section 62, 62(1b) of Calcutta Police Act./39, 39(1b) of Calcutta Suburban Police Act read with Rule No. 85, 86, 87, 88 and 93 of Rulesfor the Regulations of Traffic in Kolkata and its Suburbs and under sub-section(1) of Section 4 of the West Bengal Traffic Regulations Act, 1965 (W B Act XV of 1965) read with Govt. of West Bengal Home (Transport) Department Order No. 7605-WT, dated the 20th July, 1965 and Govt. of West Bengal Transport Department Notification No. 3363-WT/3M- 34/99, dated the 29th April, 1999, do hereby order that,
1) Movement of Heavy Goods Vehicles and Medium Goods Vehicles shall be restricted to ply from 06.00 hrs. to 22.00 hrs. on all the days throughout the city, except in port area,vide Traffic Regulation No. TP/13, dt. 16.03.2017.
However Goods Vehicle carrying essential and perishable items like - LPG, POL, Oxygen, Milk, Medicine, Vegetables, Fruits, etc. shall be allowed to ply from 22.00 hrs to 08.00 hrs and again from 12.00 hrs to 16.00 hrs on allthe days within the city.
2) Light Goods Vehicles will be allowed to move within the city of Kolkata between 12.00 hrs & 16.00 hrs and 22.00 hrs & 06.00 hrs.
3) This Notification will remain in force in addition to the other normal restrictions and relaxation as notified earlier.
4) This order shall come into force with immediate effect.
Xavier’s University signs MoU with Webel
St Xavier s University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited (Webel), a government enterprise, to foster industry-academia collaboration. The major thrust areas will be data sciences and cyber security, 3D printing and animation and VFX.
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee health
Former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, 79, could be discharged from hospital later this week. In a statement issued on Monday evening, Woodlands Hospital said the medical board was "planning for discharge with home care support later this week". He was taking some liquids orally and undergoing trial on his home BiPAP machine, it said. Bhattacharjee was admitted to the hospital on July 29 with a lower respiratory tract infection and type II respiratory failure.
Bengal govt drafts its own education policy
The Bengal government has drafted it s own education policy which details how far the state government has accepted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 prepared by the Centre. The draft also details the areas of the NEP that have been rejected by the state government, factoring in the recommendation of the empowered committee.
