Joka Metro

Commercial Metro runs on the Joka-Taratala stretch are expected before Christmas, Arun Arora, general manager of Metro Railway, said on Wednesday. “In the Joka-Taratala stretch (part of the Joka-Esplanade corridor), the automatic fare collection gates will be installed at the stations by December 10.

After that, we will coordinate with the railway ministry to finalise the date of the inauguration of commer-cial services. Commercial runs are expected before Christmas,” he said at a programme at Park Street station to issue new tokens for the carrier.

The tokens have been branded by two corporate groups, part of an initiative to increase the non-fare revenue of Metro. “Two lakh new tokens will be sold to commuters from the booking counters of New Garia-Dakshineswar, Sector V-Sealdah and the upcoming Joka-Taratala routes,” said a Metro official.
