Dip in Celsius
The mercury plunged to 16.9 degrees Celsius in Kolkata on Wednesday, the coldest day so far this season. The minimum temperature was 18.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. A rise in the intensity of north-westerly winds led to the fall, a Met official said. He did not rule out a further decline over the next 48 hours. But the dip will be short-lived and a marginal rise in the temperature is likely around the weekend, said the official.
Fire at Girish Mancha
A section of the audience at the Girish Mancha in Bagbazar had to be evacuated after a fire broke out at the theatre ahead of a show on Wednesday evening. Senior officials of the fire and emergency services department said the fire started in an air-conditioned room of the theatre. Three fire tenders reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The show resumed thereafter, the police said.
