Bratya meets protesters

Bengal education minister Bratya Basu on Wednesday met teaching job aspirants, who have been protesting on the Maidan for over three years alleging irregularities in recruitments, at Bikash Bhavan, the headquarters of the education department. The meeting was also attended by education secretary Manish Jain and school service commission chairperson Siddhartha Majumdar.

A test for the selection of assistant teachers for Classes IX to XII in government-aided schools was last held in November 2016. There were 12,905 vacant posts of assistant teacher for Classes IX and X and 5,711 for classes XI and XII when the test was held. A section of the candidates who had written the test has been recruited but another section moved court alleging irregularities in the appointments. A department official said they heard the aspirants and are taking legal opinion to resolve the issue.

KMC draft ad policy

A draft advertisement policy of Kolkata Municipal Corporation was on Wednesday shared with the mayoral council members for their opinion.

The draft bars more than five billboards on a 1-km stretch except on some roads. Temporary banners put up ahead of festivals should be removed within a deadline, it says.

If approved by the council, the draft policy will be sent to the state government for clearance, said a KMC official.

The KMC had prepared draft regulations on outdoor advertisement and published them in May 2022. The civic body sought and received suggestions for changes to the May 2022 draft, some of which have been incorporated.
