Viva notice
In a January 24 communication addressed to the chairpersons of district primary school councils, deputy secretary of the state primary education board, Partha Karmakar, told them to provide names, addresses and phone numbers of those who had been appointed by the councils to conduct the viva and aptitude test to appoint assistant teachers in the government-aided primary schools in 2016. The communication follows a prod from Calcutta High Court. In early December, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the court said “if necessary”, he would cancel the entire panel of candidates who had cracked the 2015 Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) if teachers whose names featured on the panel were found to have been recruited illegally. About 42,000 candidates who had written TET 2015 were empanelled for appointment by the state primary education board in 2016.
