Pedestrian run over by app cab in Kasba
A 50-year-old woman died after she was hit by an app cab at the crossing of Rashbehari Connector and Bosepukur Road on Friday morning.
Police said Bharati Bhattacharya, a resident of Garfa Main Road, was hit by the car around 11.45am. She was taken to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital where she was declared dead.
“The woman suffered multiple injuries. She was declared dead at the hospital,” said an officer of the Kasba police station.
The app cab driver along with the vehicle were taken to the police station where the driver was arrested.
A case under sections of causing death due to negligence, rash and negligent driving and mischief has been started by the police.
According to the police records, pedestrians comprise the maximum number of people who died in road accidents in Kolkata over the years.
