The upcoming edition of Tejashwini — Kolkata police’s self-defence workshop for women — will be held at nine venues across the city from March 11-20.
Last year in December, the workshop was held at four venues.
The nine venues, where the workshop will be held, are Nawab Ali Park, Santosh Mitra Square, Harish Park, Kishore Bharati Stadium, Eastern Railway Sports Complex, Gitanjali Stadium, Maddox Square, Rabindra Kanana and Subhas Sarobar.
The five-day self-defence training at Nawab Ali Park, Santosh Mitra Square, Harish Park, Kishore Bharati Stadium will be held from March 11-15.
For the rest of the venues, the workshop will begin on March 16 and end on March 20.
Women from the age group of 12-45 years can register online for the workshop or can visit their nearest police station to register. Interested candidates can also send their details (candidates' name, name of the guardian, address, age, contact number, photograph and preferred Tejashwini workshop location) on WhatsApp to 𝟗𝟕𝟒𝟖𝟒 𝟑𝟖𝟏𝟔𝟓.
The training camp will be held in the morning from 8am to 10am for five days in two instalments covering all the venues.
Launched in 2018, the Tejashwini initiative has received an overwhelming response, according to Kolkata police. For the first three years, the workshop had been held at only one venue.
The repeated success of the workshop had encouraged the authorities to increase the number of venues from one to four in 2021. This year it will be held at nine venues to include as many Kolkata women as possible.
An opening ceremony for the workshop will be held on March 8, on the occasion of International Women's Day, at Police Athletic Club, Maidan.
The closing ceremony will also be held at Maidan on March 21.
