Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has asked medical officers involved in Covid vaccination to try and administer the first dose of Corbevax to all children aged between 12 and 14 by April 21.

It has also asked the medical officers of all 37 vaccination centres in the city where such children are being inoculated to identify schools in their areas where camps can be set up to expedite the vaccination.

“The medical officers will draw up a list of school students who are eligible for the shot, calculate the number of Corbevax vials required and fix the dates for the first round of vaccination. We want all children in the 12-14 age group to get the first shot by April 21,” an official in the KMC’s health department said.

Apart from the 37 centres in the 16 boroughs of the city, the civic body has set up camps in over 30 government or government-sponsored schools to vaccinate children in the 12-14 age group.

Officials said that since vaccination centres had been set up in only a few schools compared with the number of children of that age group, medical officers have been asked to identify educational institutions where the jab drive can be extended.

“Across Kolkata, we will reach out to state-run schools and help them set up vaccination centres,” said deputy mayor Atin Ghosh.
