The civic body said it was banking on door-to-door visits by its field workers, which many Kolkatans said had almost stopped a few months ago, to persuade people to take all their Covid vaccine doses in time.

Many residents across the city said no one from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) had visited their home to check whether anyone had skipped a dose.

Civic officials said about half the daily Covid cases in Bengal are being reported from Kolkata.

The state reported 657 new cases on Friday, of which 305 were from Kolkata. On Thursday, 745 Covid fresh cases were detected, of which 315 were from the city.

Three students of the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital tested positive for Covid recently. One of them, who used to stay in the hostel, was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Beleghata.

An official of the medical college said the student had been admitted to the ID hospital to isolate him from other students. The other two students who tested positive are in home isolation.

“Our field workers are already going door to door to find out whether anyone has skipped a Covid vaccine dose. They are motivating such people to get all their shots and stay protected against the disease,” said a KMC official.

"We are calling up those who have tested positive to know about their health,” said a KMC official.

Though civic officials claimed field workers were visiting households, many Kolkatans across the city said otherwise.

A resident of Kasba in south Kolkata, whose mother lives in Garia on the southern fringes, said no one from the KMC had ever visited either of the places to check if anyone had missed a Covid shot.

A resident of Sovabazar, who lives with his elderly parents, said no one had visited their home to check on their vaccination status.
